For the water purist
Calculating your dose.
The simple 1–2 teaspoon method works for almost everyone. But if you want to match the dose exactly to your water — the way we do at home — this is how to dial it in.
The method
The dose isn't a number. It's an endpoint.
Rather than following a fixed amount, you match the dose to the water — increasing it until adding more no longer increases the sediment. That endpoint, where extra minerals no longer pull out extra material, is where the water’s burden has been met. Which makes the sediment itself a rough gauge of what your water was carrying.
For our tap in Sarasota, Florida, that came to a little over two teaspoons per gallon — against the single teaspoon we needed in Montana last winter. The dose isn’t fixed; it rises to meet whatever the water is carrying.
Three things to set
Dose, time, and how much to make.
1 · Dose
Match it to your water
Increase the dose until more minerals stop pulling out more sediment. Usually one to two teaspoons per gallon — more on a heavily burdened tap, less on cleaner water.
2 · Treatment time
Let the water decide
Treatment takes anywhere from 24 to 72 hours. Where the burden is high, we let it sit the full 72; on cleaner municipal water, maximum sediment forms in about 24.
3 · Container volume
Enough to always have some ready
Your daily use multiplied by your treatment time, plus one more day’s worth to drink while the rest settles. We use about 1.5 gallons a day and treat for three days: 3 x 1.5 = 4.5 gallons settling, plus 1.5 to drink from — six gallons, so six one-gallon glass jars. A gallon a day at 24 hours? Just two.
The test
Let the sediment show you the endpoint.
Six one-gallon containers of Sarasota municipal water, dosed left to right with ½, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 teaspoons of Aurmina. Photographed at 30 minutes and 12, 24, 36, and 48 hours, the sediment accumulates over time and generally increases with dose.

In practice
Then run the line.
Once you know your dose and your settling time, the day-to-day routine — the jar line, the gravity filter, the morning ritual — is the same for everyone. It is set out on the everyday page.
Match the dose. Let it settle. Drink it clear.
One teaspoon to a few per gallon, a day or three to settle — and living water at the end of it.
